This series made a long trip feel shorter. Information is presented with energy and in an interesting way. I've studied the "Old" Testament extensively and didn't always agree with the lecturer's conclusions, but that didn't bother me - differences of opinion are fine. Her information was well presented and she often gave some of the varying opinions on certain points.
What a treat to listen to such an extraordinary scholar. She is both educational and entertaining. This is an academic study, refreshingly stripped of spin or a particular religion's pov. As such it may contain ideas or new information that can conflict with--or expand--a listener's personal belief system, whatever it may be. Which it does for you is up to you. This course is extraordinary for students and seekers who are ready to listen and learn. I've shared this and other of Amy-Jill Levine's works with family and friends of varying beliefs and all have been enriched by her scholarship. Thank you AJL!
I've heard Amy-Jill Levine speak several times and always enjoy her presentation. There wasn't as much humor in this presentation as in those that she makes in person, but that is probably to be expected. I enjoy listening to her presentation of the Old Testament and would enjoy hearing more in depth treatment of some books. It's been many years since I've had scholarly classes in scripture, so much of what she presented was very different than what was presented in my college classes.
A thoroughly enthusiastic presentation by Amy-Jill Levin that opens up the Old Testament. In an objective manner she deals with the theology and interpretation of the great themes of the Hebrew Bible. A great course to use with a discussion group.
