I just finished the 3rd entry in the “Atopia†sequence and I had a great time. The first two entries were excellent stories, “Atopia’ specifically drove me to pick up other books by Mather. Once I read “Cyberstorm†and “Darknet†I knew I had found an author I could relate too and I have read everything since. To begin, “Utopia†is a great read. And, let me add, mind-blowing. I appreciated that Mather included a summary of prior events at the beginning. I could tell from the first few pages this story was going to be good. The opening introduces us to a completely new character/story line. It’s up to us to figure out how it relates to the story we know. References to other story arcs and other book really make the entire story arc feel really full and complete. The story starts just prior to the end of “Atopia†with the hurricanes approaching the Atopia platform. We see key events and experiences from the previous books, but this time from Bob’s viewpoint. Bob begins to question reality and meets a ‘dark figure’ who puts Bob on a path of discovery. Bob goes on a hunt for answers and takes a piece of Sid with him. Together, the path Bob and Sid take to discover the truth is wild to say the least. Moving from timeline to timeline, universe to universe they search for answers. The hunt takes billions of years and billions of lifetimes Along the way we meet various characters from the story in previous times and learn about how things came about and converged on the Atopian technologies. Mather has a unique way of shifting the story between timelines. One chapter ends one thread and the next chapter begins another but, the story stays continuous. As I read these story and follow all that is happening, I remember back to the previous books and how this story interleaves with those books. It really brings it all back together. So much so, that I will begin a marathon of re-reading the entire “Atopia†sequence as well as “Cyberstorm†(because it is kind of Book 0 in the sequence). I do not know if there will be any follow on Atopia stories, “Utopia†really did feel like putting it all to rest. But if this universe is re-opened, I will be ready to accept what it delivers.I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, any of Mather’s books would make awesome productions: TV Series, Mini-Series, TV Movie or Full Feature Hollywood movie. Amazon has a great opportunity to make some very interesting stuff with this author. “Atopia†would make a wonderful multi-season TV series on Amazon Video. Come on, Amazon.. You can do it!
Utopia is the exciting finale of Matthew Mathers' Atopia Chronicles or may be read as a stand alone story. I recommend reading it as the finale. We join Bob and Sid as they race through virtual time to find their friend Willy and stop The Destroyer. If you enjoy futuristic books this series will be right at home in your library.
The Utopia Chronicles (Atopia, #3) by Matthew MatherEach book in this series has been incredible! And this conclusion does a great job too! The first book was a fast paced look at at a possible, near future based upon high technology and artificial realities. The second book takes that as a base, then further develops the characters, and various themes, by mixing in some varied metaphysics and such. This last book takes us into a very logical conclusion. The characters are quite well developed by now, but still capable of surprising us, and themselves, along the way. As fast paced as the book is, it is also very well crafted. The issues and questions that Bob is dealing with really are the ultimate questions of one's entire existence. But Bob's existence is set upon a rather more grand scope than mine or your's.So yes, you need ot read this book to see which set of dimensional umultiverses the story goes thru...
Utopia was a truly amazing workI read Atopia and Dystopia 2 years ago and liked them a lot. Somehow I forgot to read Utopia - until last week. And, WOW, it was my best book experience ever so far.The ease with which Mather conveys Bob as a billion year conductor of endless parallel simulated or real universes, where he took over his own character, were taken over by his shadow, ended simulations, thus being the destroyer of universes he was pursuing... made me feel honored to get to take part of his story-telling.In fact, WHILE I was reading the second half of Utopia I was filled with incredible joy, appreciation, and anticipation at the thought of re-reading the book, in order to more fully grasp the grandness of the scale of Bob's enterprise and the author's imagination.
Utopía is the final book in this series but can be read as a stand alone. I highly recommend reading the entire series. It is amazing! Mathew Mather brings you to the edge of your seat every time. His writing is excellent, captivating, just beautiful! Utopía captures you from the very beginning and doesn't let you go until the end. I recommend you start this book when you have no other engaments, you will not be able to put this down. The story line takes you through twists and turns, the characters come alive, and I promise you won't be able to get them out of your head. Thank you Mr. Mather for a wonderfully, well written, work of art!
Atopia's first book was an amazing surprise in the world of anticipation books, especially from a then-not-so-famous author. It had the perfect blend of page-turner thriller, and deep thought-provoking anticipation. The second book was a little more on the thriller/adventure side, and Mathew Mather's other books aside of the Atopia series have also been more thriller and less though-provoking (though still very interesting). With the third and last book of Atopia, Mathew returned to his masterpiece series to end it with a book that's all deep thought-provoking (and very little thriller). It may not be for everyone, but if you like anticipation science fiction and deep books, this one will give you food for thoughts long after you put it down.
I love the book series. I HATE the narrator on the audiobook. Luke Daniels should no longer narrate any of Matthew's books. I wish they would have kept the ENTIRE series to one narrator. We get used to the voices that they do, and having to change our image of them because the narrator is different is disruptive to the continuity of the series.
