If you are a true chi lite fan read this book with an open mind. It is hard to read a book about any group when it is told by the last living member. They always seem to put extra butter on the popcorn for themselves. This book still will serve as a reminder of a fantastic group.
I grew up listening to the Chi-Lites. I remember their heyday and the many television appearances on Soul Train. You could say they were a "staple" of everyone's childhood in the 60's and 70's. This book not only takes you down memory lane, but it gives you an inside look at the not so glamorous side of the entertainment business. For any group/group member to survive and prosper through the turbulence of the music industry dark-side, speaks volumes about their drive and resilience in the face of adversity. Too often we, the public, are given the a side of famous people and groups that is far from what their live are in reality, Marshall Thompson allows us to share the trouble times and his pains and struggles along the way. I was pleased there was no "fluff" in this book and it is grounded in reality. I suggest this book to anyone interested in music, business and how Marshall Thompson's drive keeps the Chi-Lite going after 54 years, and and historian as this book is chocked full of interesting history, including history on music and mob connections.
To see what the group went through over the years, the ups and downs it's great to see THE LAST MAN STANDING! !! His personal tragedies, which was enough to pull any man down, but Marshall has kept the group alive in every aspect.
