WOW!!!! I began scanning photos 2 years ago and I searched different websites and blogs, and bought books, but they were confusing, or unrelated to what I was doing.The first 2 chapters answered questions I’ve had for years!!!! I can’t wait to get scanning again, and now I’ll do it right!The instructions are simple, clear, and explain WHY to do it the way they recommend. I’ve bought other books, and this one is by FAR the best!I finally have 1 go-to book with everything I need to scan & restore photos.
Absolutely the best book you can get on the subject! The first half of the book teaches the tools used in restoration. The second half uses those tools in loads of examples and projects with lots of tips along the way. See my first project pics below.2/13/18: Still enjoying this book! Ms Wolper has hit a home run! Her instructions are simple and straightforward. She writes with such clarity that this reference book is a pleasure to use. I especially appreciate knowing "why". It's a fabulous resource and will be a permanent part of my library. Further, I would suggest if you have even the slightest interest in scanning and restoration of photos, you will benefit greatly from owning a copy of this book. Buy it now, it's well worth the purchase price!
I have not gotten past the first few chapters simply because I have not had time to sit down and work in my photo restoration project yet. However, I read the first couple of chapters and what I learned just in chapter one about resolution and scanning old photos was absolutely worth every penny i spent on this book. I can't wait to dive in the rest of the book and get started on restoring my old family photos!!
I've been using Photoshop for like forever but I know there's a lot to learn. I purchased the book for the "restoration" part of restoration & enhancement. So far I've gotten through the first 4 chapters. I thought I was pretty good at the topics presented in these chapters but I've learned a lot from them. This is a WORKbook with the emphasis on working through the examples to better learn what is taught. The included DVD has all the photos shown in the book, practice files and videos. Practice files used in earlier chapters are used again in later chapters to build on the skills. At the end of each chapter there are additional practice examples to burn in the skills learned in the chapter. Four chapters down, nine to go. I can't wait to see what I learn from them.
I think I have purchased most major books on PhotoShop. I believe that this one is the most well done of them all. It is simply fantastic and a teaching gem. Numerous projects with supporting files and video tutorials. Thorough yet to the point.
Good basic book and intro into this area. Good reference book. Easy read.
