Slightly humorous for a scientist, but my older toddler was entirely uninterested in it. It's not nearly as engrossing as Goodnight Moon because the illustrations are pretty meager.
Arrived and read to the whole family (6Y and 18 months) that evening.We have read goodnight Moon so, so many times that the pacing and cadence can be translated across, and it *just works* so well. My son obviously just was going from the sounds and intonation but my daughter loved the mixing up and the science aspects.Afterwards was asking what the specific instruments are and what they do, so it certainly resonated with her already sharp mind.Brought it in to work, and have a couple of other parents of younger kids interested just from seeing it and hearing me read through it.
I bought this on a lark -- and it's definitely a fun read. If you're a Goodnight Moon fan who is also into science, this will be right up your alley. To be fair, some of the jokes are a stretch, and will be lost on younger children, but they'll grow into it and will develop a scientific vocabulary that will amaze people.
I'm obsessed with this book. As a woman who works in STEM, it's a priority that I expose my daughter to a wide variety of possible interests. This book is adorable and enjoyable. I have a feeling this will be one of her favorites as she grows up. Definitely worth the money!
My husband's favorite childhood book was "Goodnight Moon" and he was looking forward to seeing this parody. It was subpar in story and illustrations and he felt the author was really stretching it a bit to try and get the rhyming down. We ended up sending it back.
The images are pretty poor quality - book arrived fine but the actual book is kind of a joke. Spouse and I joked we could have done this better using Microsoft paint in one afternoon.
5 stars on the content - 3 stars on the paper quality of the pages.This book is a great spin on one of the classics. It has a great story, great pictures, and clever writing. My only complaint is that the book quality needs to be a little stronger for destructive toddler hands. But the content of the book is absolutely worth 5 stars!
I wish I could like this but they use the same drawing for the lab over and over again. I feel they could word a few things differently to make the text smoother. I would skip this book
